Anonymous, after Jacopo Tintoretto
Italy; 16th century
Printed on laid paper with a small circle watermark

Approximate size: 13.5 x 21.25 in.

The present print is apparently very rare. We identify only one other example at the Rijksmuseum (inv. RP-P-2004-26). The scene depicting St. Peter’s vision of the cross is based on a painting by Jacopo Tintoretto in the Chiesa Madonna dell'Orto in Venice, formerly featured on an organ in this church.

The print is by a talented engraver, yet-to-be-identified, but of very good quality.

A sketch of the composition, attributed to the Bolognese draughtsman, Filippo Pedrini, was recently offered in the art market (Koller auction, 2023).

Condition: A strong impression, slightly colored paper commensurate with age. Very minor foxing along edges.
