A handsome dome lidded Scandinavian immigrants’ box with a lovely painted green and blue tonal palette with scrolling foliate motifs. A cream stripe runs along the edges and center of the box, possibly in imitation of where iron reinforcing mounts would normally appear on larger variants of this utilitarian artform. The edges taper downward and provide a very simple yet eloquent design. The painted motifs of are simple and beautiful and elevate the overall charm of this handmade antique.
Condition commensurate with age. Various dings and nicks with losses or rubbing to some surface areas of the paint. Old worming present along the back margin of the lid. A small stress crack present along the top-right of the lid. Overall, very stable.
