Unveiling the intricate artistry of the 19th century, this archival display brings together a curated collection of stucco and gesso moulding fragments. Carefully applied to a board, these delicate pieces are set against the rich, yet worn, texture of antique silk damask, creating a dialogue between material and age. Some fragments shimmer with their original gilding, highlighting a sophisticated vocabulary of elaborate patterns and sculptural elements directly inspired by Greco-Roman and Renaissance prototypes.

The collection provides a fascinating glimpse into classical motifs: admire the graceful, vertical coils of acanthus leaves, or the ethereal, lace-like foliage that speaks of natural symmetry. A distinct rectangular fragment showcases a stylized palmette or fan-like leaf, while another proudly presents the iconic Greek key, or meander, a timeless design symbolizing continuity and connection.

Ideal for an art or architecture enthusiast, this display does not just preserve; it celebrates the enduring legacy and complex beauty of ornamental art, bridging ancient inspiration with 19th-century craftsmanship.

Condition commensurate with age.  The silk is worn and tattered, particularly along the extremities and lower margin, exposing its wood backing. The silk is also partly stained and buckled along some edges.  Minor chips, dings and losses are present on the various plaster pieces.  The fragments are mounted by iron tangs which slightly penetrate the reverse of the display.  The weight and scale of this piece require hanging by a professional.  It can alternatively be displayed on an easel as well.
