Jules Moigniez's superb bronze sculpture of a Persian Stallion, likely cast by Auguste Gouge in France around 1900, is a masterful study of equine power and grace. The model, probably executed in the mid-19th century by the short-lived Moigniez, was immortalized by the foundry and casting efforts of his father who continued to perpetuate his son’s legacy before passing the models on to Gouge. The model meticulously captures the anatomical detail of the horse, from the rippling musculature beneath the animal's taut hide to the expressive curve of its neck and the proud set of its finely chiseled head. With flared nostrils and alert ears, the stallion exudes a vibrant intelligence and untamed spirit, its sweeping mane and tail rendered with dynamic sensitivity. The rich patinated bronze lends a timeless dignity and weight to the piece, reflecting light off its finely textured surface and emphasizing the Persian breed's aristocratic features and inherent nobility, standing as a testament to Moigniez's profound understanding of animal form and his ability to imbue his subjects with palpable life.
Condition: Good condition with minor rubbing along the extremities of the horse’s belly. A minor warp is present along the outer perimeter of the base which is reinforced by wood underneath.
