This singular light fixture is an inimitable addition for a unique space. Probably originally a funerary carriage lantern—a somber beacon of the early 19th century—this lighting fixture stands as a testament to both the dignity of death and artistic ingenuity. Crafted from brass and copper and beautifully patinated through age, its construction speaks of permanence and respect for the departed. The deep, patinated brass forms the primary structure, with intricate geometric patterns pierced into the sides, allowing a somber, diffused light to escape. Detailing in riveted copper provides contrast and reinforcement, highlighting the craftsmanship and suggesting a dedication to quality. This electrified light casts an ethereal, almost otherworldly glow, a fragile promise against the surrounding darkness the carriage once remedied in serving its solemn purpose.
Condition commensurate with age. Comes with a contemporary or later mounting brass mounting plate.
