The present portrait of a distinguished gentlemen housed in a gilt plaster and wood frame is of the Empire epoch. The painting is probably European in origin, and probably from France. Such portraiture was common among the gentry of the era. Eloquently framed, this artwork is a good example of Regency portraiture and may enhance one’s space or collection with the ambience of bygone days.
Condition commensurate with age. Some yellowing or darkening of the canvas, due to age. Minor paint flaking along the lower register of the canvas. Minor chips and losses to the corners of the gilt frame. One of the floral appliques chipped with losses in the upper left corner of the frame.
