Polychrome faience and gilt brass
Approximate size, including shade: 26 (h) x 6 (w) x 4 (d) in.
A unique custom-made gilt brass table lamp fitted with an 18th century arched Baroque faience volute fragment in the form of an acanthi once forming part of a tiled German stove. This particular fragment may have been one of the forward-facing feet. The fragment features an eloquent acanthi leaf motif polychromed in two-tone cream and blue colored glaze mounted on a stepped gilt brass base. A pinecone finial surmounts the stem.
Stoves of the 18th century provided radiant heat and were frequently designed to distinctly form part of a room's architecture. As such, they were often lavishly decorated, representing the zenith of quality craftsmanship in the arts of faience and ceramics.
This lamp is truly unique and proves the outstanding timeless beauty of late Baroque elegance.
Condition: very good with some minor tarnish to the brass framework, particularly along the lower base. The faience fragment’s condition is commensurate with age, with minor chips, losses and thin craquelure present.
Note: Electrified although not yet tested. Requires a lamp shade.
