This pair of two-tier monumental corner wall brackets are a unique and interesting 18th century survival exhibiting the complex and intricate forms of the Rococo period. Each bracket is masterfully carved with scrolling motifs and a central mascaron while the interesting color palette takes its cue from the earlier 16th century sculptor and ceramic influences of Bernard Palissy.
Condition commensurate with age. Polychrome surfaces likely refreshed and lacquered in the early-to-mid 20th century. Various nicks, chips, minor losses, various cracks and fissures throughout but altogether handsomely worn with age and structurally stable. Modern mounting loops are affixed to the reverse for mounting.
Provenance: from an important historic Charleston, SC home.
