This small, early 1900s mirror is framed by a slender expanse of deeply figured veneer, probably rosewood, with its dark, reddish-brown smooth polished surface. A delicate molding forms an inner frame, slightly recessing the antique glass where the object’s age is most profoundly evident. Along the margins of the mirror, the silvering has succumbed to the years, blooming into dendritic losses that frame the remaining surface with shimmering, dark shadows of corrosion. Furthermore, the entire pane is heavily crazed with a fine spiderweb of surface cracks and deeply smoked patina, lending any reflection a muted, ethereal quality. This perfect combination of distress and darkened clarity has settled into a beautifully aged appearance, transforming the once functional looking-glass into a quiet, if yet haunting relic of the past.
Condition commensurate with age and as described above, although some of the precise structure of the original frame has modestly shifted over time due to humidity. There are various dings and losses to the stain along the extreme margins of the frame.
